Classmate Husband's Death - Ann Minus

Barbara Watkins called to tell me the sad news of Ann Minus husband's death on Friday. Here is the obit from The Dallas Morning News. I do not now the details but it sounds like it was very sudden. I will try to get an email to the group before the end of the week. Let's include Ann in our prayers and determine what we would like to do as a group.

Billy Eugene Minnis
MINNIS, BILLY EUGENE, Bill was born in Wylie, Texas on February 15, 1930 to Lawrence Millard Minnis and Carrie Irene Borchardt Long. He spent his earlier years in Oak Cliff and use to tell his friends that he grew up in "hunger heights on starvation hill." A long term resident of Garland, Texas, he died at home of heart failure early Friday morning, September 21, 2007. His Lord and Savior called him home as his life and work were completed on earth. Surviving are his devoted wife of 44 years, Ann Minnis and their thoughtful and caring son, Lawrence and daughter-in-law Rosalinda. He was blessed with a granddaughter, Lauren Michelle who will greatly miss her Granddaddy. A second son, David Eugene Minnis also survives him. Other cherished family members include cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces and a strong following of devoted friends. Bill served as a Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard of Texas and attended numerous Technical Training Centers and in particular, Lowry Air Force Base where he was awarded Munitions Specialist from the 344 1st School Sq. He worked and retired from Texas Instruments' Defense Group where he served as a Senior Quality Control Inspector on many key programs for nearly 30 years. He took his job to heart and strongly supported the corporation's message to its employees "Do it right the first time." While inspectors are not always popular, Bill was highly regarded and respected among the quality control industry circle and managed to work collaboratively with government liaisons, customer representatives, and a multitude of TI production and engineering teams to get the best products shipped to their destination. He diligently worked toward the customer's requirements and relationship. His membership with the American Society for Quality Control was important to him and he served as it membership chair. He won the prestigious American Society for Quality Control's Dallas/Fort Worth" Inspector of the Year Award" and then traveled to Toronto, Canada to receive the National ASQC "Inspector of the Year Award in 1976. Bill was very loyal to TI and his TI family. Upon Bill's retirement, his inspection stamp "TI611" was officially retired. Through his association with ASQC he served as Junior Achievement and Science Fair coordinator. He came out of retirement to assist his son in their purified water shop - Water Provisions-To-Go where he quickly acquired a new gathering of friends. He looked forward to the daily flow of customers where he engaged in conversation with his clients as well as making his daily rounds visiting with the various owners of the surrounding shops. He loved football games and relished in meeting those supporters of a losing team. The long line of Minnis followers looked forward to their daily ration of dry humor. Bill's faith in God was strong, he was fearless, humble, loyal, a protector of family and friends, and had an uncanny gift for straight talk laced with wisdom and kindness. Our Bill will be greatly missed, but will remain in our minds and hearts forever. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Oaks Church of Christ, 10805 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Texas where his life will be celebrated. Interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. George Baker will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The University of Texas Pan American, HESTEC Initiative, c/o Dr. Roland Arriola, 1201 West University Drive, Edinburg, Texas 78541.
